Let's Talk Blog Challenge - Aishling's Summer Essentials

So it's week 2 of the #LetsTalkBlogChallenge and if you don't know what that is here's a quick explanation in the words of creator  Sarah's Blog.

So this is going to be a 6 week challenge, with a different topic each week that we'll write and tweet about. The plan is to write and schedule our posts for Monday at 8pm and then tweet our posts on twitter at that time, using the hashtag #LetsTalkBlogChallenge. That way every Monday at 8pm all our posts are live and we're all online to interact and share our posts with each other. I'll be online from 8-9pm every Monday, reading and commenting on all the posts and chatting to you all, just so there is a sense of community and interaction.

The topic for this week is; Summer Essentials! Kerrie and I are both going to share are summer essentials with you. I'm up first and be sure to check out Kerrie's post here :) I hope you enjoy!

First up is some music! I created a playlist on Youtube which I thought was handier than adding individual YouTubes. The playlist includes Joan Jett, Smashing Pumpkins, Eels, Jefferson Airplane, Queens of the Stone Age, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Dinosaur Jr, The Who, The Clash and lots and lots of others! So hit play, enjoy the tunes, scroll down and read the rest of the post!

I only just figured out how to use Polyvore and now I love it! It's such a great way to put outfits together. Expect more Polyvore outfit sets from me in future. I will always try and keep everything in Polyvore sets available to buy around here and not too expensive. Some Polyvore sets I see are ridiculous and you can't even get any of the stuff.

In this first set most of the stuff is from New Look and Etsy. I went for a nice summery mint look and added my own style.

Summer Mint

Next up I went for a more laid back grunge style.

Whatever Smashing Pumpkins

I need to buy all of those things! I do actually have that Models Own nail polish and its so neon green! I will be sure to have a review up after I use it! I hope you like my picks and get an idea of my style :)

I love colourful eyeshadows and lipsticks for around spring and summer. I've recently been dying to try some of Limecrimes amazing lipsticks and glitter eyeshadows. Just look at those colours! I need!

Summery Limecrime Wants

Glitter makeup, €9,38 / Glitter eyeshadow, €9,38 / Glitter eyeshadow, €9,38 / Lips makeup, €13 / Lips makeup, €13 / Lips makeup, €13 / Smudge proof eyeliner, €10

I love the new eyeshadow palettes that have come out by Essence which are available for about €4 in Penneys/Primark. They're in lovely colours and the colour pay off is great! I already have All About Sunrise which is full of neutral colours and a lovely yellow. Keep in mind though that they're all glittery and shimmery, not matte. There's 3 other palettes available but the main ones I want are below along with some Mac lipsticks I really want!

Cheap and Expensive

MAC Cosmetics lipstick, €12 / MAC Cosmetics lips makeup, €12

I'm not a lover of pink but pink lipsticks actually suit me well, if I do say so myself :P, and Candy Yum Yum is one of my favourites. It looks amazing on nearly everyone and I would love to try it myself! Lady Danger is another one everyone is raving about this spring/summer and who can say no to a coral red?!

I thought I would include some summer movies or movies that give me a summery vibe. Whether its set around summer time or you can just feel that sticky heat and summer air or it simply reminds me of summer.

Dazed and Confused in my opinion has to be the best summer movie of all. Set in the 70s in follows different groups of teenagers on the last day of school. It feels summery and hot, it's set in an amazing time, the clothes, the music! UGH. If I could go back to then, I would in a heartbeat.

I love everything about it, I love all the people in it, there are so many familiar faces. We're the Aliens, man.

Adventureland stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart and Martin Starr. It's set in the summer of 1987, James (Jesse Eisenberg) has to find a job to pay for a trip he wants to take before going to College. He ends up getting a job at a local amusement park called Adventureland. Stuff and tangs happen :P

Jesse Eisenberg, I feel, is a toned down version of himself in this. I find he can be a bit too much with his quirky ways but he fits well into this excellent summertime indie movie. Kristen Stewart is particularly good. I find she is tainted because of the awful Twilight films but actually she is a good actress (especially in The Runways which I mention below) but there is just not much than can be done for terribly written characters like Belle Swan. If you're a Freaks & Geeks fan, which you fecking should be, this film also stars Martin Starr who is amazing and so nerdy and impossible not to love.

Almost Famous is about a boy named William who gets to write about, and go on tour with Stillwater for Rolling Stone magazine. I didn't know whether to include this or not because although it feels like summer film he actually goes and tours with the band while school is still going on. But to me it feels very much like a summer movie.

Everyone is brilliant in this film so there is no point going through every one of them. Even the people who aren't in it much are excellent. And one of Philip Seymour Hoffman best performances. Excuse me while I have a little cry. RIP :(
The music is especially amazing, even from the made up band Stillwater. Again, like Dazed and Confused, the clothes, the feels, the people. So so good.

The Runawayskeeping with the music theme, a film about the girl band The Runaways. It stars Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie, Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Michael Shannon as a creepy music producer. I feel like they did tone this movie down a bit for the teens but overall it is very good. Kristen Stewart is especially good in this. She is actually perfect as Joan Jett.

Like the movies I mentioned before it, it's the time it's set in, the clothes and music that makes it feel summery to me.

Whip It is currently my favourite movie. I can't watch it enough and it is to me a perfect summer movie. It's hard to tell when it's set because they have mobile phones yet it feels very like a 90s movie. Directed by Drew Barrymore, it's about Bliss (played by Ellen Page), a girl living in a small town being entered into pageants by her mother. She finds a Roller Derby league near her and joins up.

I love this movie so much. Who doesn't have her feels of being trapped in a small town? Every woman needs to watch this cos it shows women and how badass they are. Now I need to go find me some skates.

And there you have it! My list of Summer Essential things! I do hope you enjoyed and can't wait to read what everyone else's summer essentials are! Let me know if you liked the music and the outfits and have watched or will watch any of the movies! Thanks for reading :)

Wishlist: New Look - Autumn/Winter Boots

The only boots I own are Doc Martens. I love them oh so very much and especially coming into the colder and wetter weather. I have been searching for a new ankle boot though. They give an amazing edge to any outfit and are perfect for Autumn and Winter.

The one I'm drooling over at the moment is this amazing Black Chunky Cut Out Buckle Ankle Boots €39.99. I'm in love with them! I love how chunky they are, the little bit of a wedge/heel, the 90's look and those buckles! Also love the little cut out bit! I love wearing cute socks and would love to have them peeking out! Not sure they'd be great for the very wet weather but still their looks win it for me.

Next up are these amazing Black Leather Biker Boots €85.99. On the pricy side but they're real leather. They're definitely a great Autumn/Winter boot! Keeping you nice and dry while you stomp through everything! And how amazing would they make any outfit look?

I love all the detail. Especially the studded strap around the back of the boot.

With those two being my favourites here are a few more I really like!

These are all from New Look as they have an amazing collection of boots and clothes at the moment! Next up I will have a New Look Clothes Wishlist so watch this space...!!

Shop My Stash!

Hi hope you're having a good day.  If you are anything like me you probably have a ton of beauty products purchased because you 'needed' them at the time, only to find them idling at the back of the drawer after their 15 minute of fame aka "ugh not sure I like that to the back of draw with you!".

So with the aim of using all this 'crap' I have accumulated and try to make it work.  I decided to 'Shop my Stash',  if you're not familiar with this concept basically it means you 'shop' through your own stash of products and choose those that you don't often use or haven't seen light of day since you took them home! You never know you might save some money and find some new favourites you never knew you had, or a new way of using a product you though you didn't like.

My finished face!

I selected a concealer I've never tried since purchasing! That's the Rimmel Clear complexion pictured below, along with a Chit Chat Highlighting Concealer, I bought that in Dealz but totally forgot I had it!.  On my faces I used - Avon MagiX cashmere finish foundation in Ivory.  I had stopped using the Avon foundation as I found it clung to the dry patches.  I mixed it with Estee Lauder Double Wear, this is a sample size I've only tried once or twice, it has great coverage but is a little too dark for me, it mixed well with the pinkish tone of the avon fondation.  I used 2 essence products that were rolling around, one is the shimmer and shade highlighter and the other is vintage district blush.

Next I picked through the multitude of eye liners, shadows, pigments, dusts, mascaras etc.  I chose my usual HD Brows palette as I have nothing to replace that!  My elf eyelid primer that I always forget to use.  An Essence eyeshadow trio.  A rimmel kohl liner.  Essence liquid liner.  Urban Decay 24/7 liner.  Two Frontcover purple/blue shimmer and glitter pigments. A primark eye dust in Pink.  And Rimmel Volume Accelerator mascara.

For the lips I picked a Pink lippie I got in a Glossybox some time ago and an essence XXXL lipgloss in a purple shade.

Overall I was quite happy with how the foundation turned out, the Avon mixed will and applied a lot better for me, lasting all day and not turning patchy.  The Rimmel concealer I don't like, it's too thick and doesn't blend at all well, it's looks dry and needed a lot of work to make it look just ok.  The chit chat/dealz concealer works great as a highlight under the eye/browbone I do like that one.  The shimmer and shade is workable but not my favourite, I have trouble making it look good on the skin.  I quite like the vintage district blush but I find it lacks pigmentation.

The eyes were the real 'discovery' products here!  I am really getting to like the elf lid primer, it does make the colours cling and 'pop' that bit more.  The middle shade in the trio, was a revelation, it looks silver but actually is a fab silver/blue colour and looked stunning as a base for the front cover shades which are hightly pigmented. You will get fall out from these but they are shimmery and glittery so I expected as much.  I used my mac 217 to blend a little of the pink into the crease and man it is a bright colour - a little goes a long way!

I need to remember to use my urban decay pencils much more - they are soooooooooo long lasting and the colour is awesome.  The rimmel kohl pencil I don't love, though it is creamy and glides on easily, it tended to clump and gather at the corners of my eyes after a couple of hours, not a good look!

The essence liner is good, it has a lovely small brush.  However as I haven't used liquid liner in ages I did have trouble with application and I'm not happy with that but that's down to me rather that the product.  It is very long lasting.  However it dries kinda tight feeling and I don't like that on my eyes.  Finally the mascara is good but a little too clumpy for my small lashes and the brush is not my favourite kind.

Here's another pic of the final face - I was going for 'Purple Galaxy Eyes'

I must say that Glossybox lippie was really nice and creamy!  a light pink shade with a small amount of the puple gloss over top, the gloss looks glittery in the tube but I didn't find it was gritty or uncomfortable on the lips.

I am going to do this again as I have lots of stuff to rediscover in my collection.  Thanks for reading and bye for now!

Aishling's September Favourites

Hey guys! Finally got around to doing not only a video but a blog post about my September favourites! I wasn't actually going to do this but then I found a few things to grab that I've been using a lot lately. I will be better prepared for October though I think! It's strange doing a video on my own so please forgive my awkwardness and stumbling over my words :P Also I think the focus is on the background and not me! Oh well! Enjoy and don't forget to comment and let me know what you think and if you've tried or will be trying any of the products mentioned! :)

PS. I shaved my hair off! I will try and get a blog post up about it soon! :P

OOTD: Vintage

I bought this dress from Mod Cloth a couple of years ago and never wore it until this weekend! My Mammy and my godfather Johnny had a joined surprise birthday party so I decided it was the perfect time to wear it! These photos are taken the day after as I got no photos of it on the night! I had to wear it again the next day cos its just too nice :P

 Dress: ModCloth
Sunglasses: Specsavers
Wedge Sandals: Can't remember where, bought years ago.
Necklace: Penney's/Primark
Brooch: Vintage Fair
(Bottom Left: Steve made me pose like that :P)

My hair looked much better the night before. The flower hair clip I borrowed from my mammy.

The day before the party I went on search for a pearl necklace (not a real one obviously) cause I knew it would go with this dress perfectly! Found a nice cheap one in Penney's!
The goat brooch I bought at a Vintage Fair a while back for only €2. It's apparently mother of pearl.
My wedge sandals I have them in years. I got them in 2004 I think? So 9 years?! I haven't worn them a lot because we don't really get great weather here, it's very rare!

Me and Steve!

And lastly a photo of Steve showing me how to pose :P
