Nail Art: Halloween Slime

Hi guys! I really wanted to put up some more Halloween related blog posts over the last while but could just never get around to it. But I thought I would post this quick Halloween related nail art I did the other day. I done these on Monday and they've lasted me until now. Only some very slight chipping. I don't have the greatest nails and I'm not the best at nail art (even something as simple as this) but I liked out it turned out.

I used Collection 2000 Black and Barry M's Spring Green for the green slime. I applied a good blob of green to the tops of my nails and then used a bobby pin to move down the green like slime oozing down! The brush applicator for Spring Green is actually quite small and I found out you can pretty much make the oozing with it so you don't need a bobby pin after all!

When it was all finished I let it dry. The drying process is the worst part of it all. It takes ages. It was a good 2 hours before I went to bed and still in the morning it got all smudged. But I applied another top coat of OPI's Top Coat and it evened it out brilliantly and got rid of the smudging and ridges.

I will definitely be trying this again! I might also try and do some eyeballs! I've seen them around and love it!

Fun With Nails!

I've had some fun playing with the different nail polishes and special effect toppers I own. Here are the results and a mini how-to! Enjoy :)

If you need to cut and file/buff your nails do that.  I start off by washing my hands, getting rid of any dirt or oils that might mess up my polish and then moisturise with a good hand and nail cream.  I've used a monu spa one, I got in a glossybox.  This is a good time to apply a cuticle oil and push back the cuticle with an orange stick.  I was lazy and didn't do that today!

Next you might want to lay a protective cover over where you are working incase of spillages or you're just clumsy like me!  Note my bubble wrap, comfy and fun :D

I apply a base of OPI Nail Envy (tbh I don't notice any change in my nails but it is a good base and quick drying) If you have problem nails choose a base suitable to you, otherwise just use a regular version.  It is important to protect your nails from staining even if you have no problems to treat.

Now onto the colour, we're going down the nail art route so I've applied a rainbow of Rimmel, you may choose what you wish, hope you find some inspiration below.

How I Achieved this - L-R; 

Rimmel New Romantic applied in 2 coats, I then used a cocktail stick to apply a small amount of clear top coat (you could use nail art glue) to where I wanted the nail decorations to stick, using an orange stick I applied and pressed little hearts and stars.  Apply a topcoat to seal into place

Rimmel Soul Sessions on the first finger with a 'V' of Ciate Sand Dune simply applied.  I love the nude and gold and it's easy to do, use some scotch tape if you want a very crisp line. 

Next is Rimmel Reggae Splash 3 coats!! then using a cocktail stick I dotted Rimmel Jazz Funk randomly on the nail, followed my smaller 'dots' of Essence colour and go in a green shade! This turned out pretty nice and that reggae shade is growing on me!

Then Party Pink nail! Rimmel Jazz Funk with silver diamond glitters from the limited edition Essence 'Vintage District' Collection.  Again I used a top coat as a 'glue' and painted that on the tip and dotted where I wanted it to go to the nail bed.

The base is Rimmel Hip Hop, half the nail is painted in the middle Essence colour 'Be Optimistic' a rusty shade perfect for Autumn, though I'm unsure if this is still available in stores. I topped with Essence 'Time for Romance' and dotted with Catrice 'I Wear My Sunglasses at Night' - awesome shade no longer available.  I like this as an autumn look.

And for the Right Hand

L-R; Pinky has Rimmel BritPop topped with something I got from ebay, I love the turquoise and gold with red flecks.

Next is Rimmel Rhythm & Blues topped with Essence Special Effects topper from the Snow White collection in '03 Prince Charming' - this was an awesome pairing, pics don't do it justice.

Following that we have Rimmel Punk Rock with an essence topper again this time in Blue Addicted (apparently a dupe for Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe ;)) Top with a gloss top coat for some shiney shines :P

Then I popped a sparkly glitter konad professional over Rimmel Disco Fever for a crushed gem look

Finally a simple sparkly red, maybe Christmassy?!! Rimmel Rock n Roll topped with OPI Warm and Fozzie from the muppets collection

^Oh and the bottle you can see in the background - I managed to fling across the room because I was shaking it and this happened...

Rimmel Salon Pro Nail Polish (Kate Moss Collection) Review

Sorry for being away for so long and no posts but I have been busy moving house!  Now I'm back to normal I have been trialing the Rimmel London Salon Pro Nail Polish Kate Moss Collection - quite a mouthfull!

I happened to win all 10 shades in the Kate Moss collection so it was a great opportunity to try and review!

This post is going to be picture heavy, I want to you have a look at the shades and how they looked on my nails, I'll comment in further detail on how I found them, as they claim a gel like finish, chip resistant and last up to 10 days!

Here we go...

There are 10 shades in the collection all name after a style of music it seems; New Romantic is a pale pink, think a french manicure shade.  Soul Session is a nude beige. Hip Hop is a coral red I would say. Disco Fever is a grape purple. Reggae Splash is a peachy orange. Punk Rock is charcoal grey. Rhythm & blues is a dark navy blue. Jazz Funk is a blush pink. Brit Pop is a turquoise blue.  Finally Rock n Roll is a true red.

You get a decent amount of product and they cost approx €6.49 each.  They claim to contain Lycra to prevent chipping...

Here is how each shade looked after one application;

First impressions - The dark shades give a way better pay off on first application, notably Rock N Roll - one coat give an opaque finish! Punk Rock is similar and Jazz Funk could be applied in one coat and give a good finish.  Reggae Splash and New Romantic fail here, very wishy washy with one coat. Rhythm N Blues needs another but I kinda like the stained glass look of one coat of this great navy blue.

I think 2 coats give a great finish to all the colours except Reggae Splash!  I don't know what it is about it but it will not look good on my nails after 2 coats, even 3 leaves me with streaks and tbh I don't like the colour but that's just personal preference.

From the selection my outright favourite is Rhythm and Blues, I think it is a fabulous colour, with high shine and looks different in various light.  One bad point however - I found it chips like mad! Some of the polishes I have worn for over 10 days but this chipped after only a few hours. I will try it again with a better topper and see if that helps.  

Speaking of lasting power!  Soul Sessions is the winner for me, it lasted 12 days on my nails - no chipping! I did have a base and top coat and 2 coats of the polish its self.  Its a fabulous nude colour and I really like it.  Rock N Roll the red shade is perfect for anyone looking for a good red polish, it goes on like a dream and as I say opaque in one coat! I also think the Disco Fever is beautiful - this lasted quite a while on my toes :D

Overall these do give a high shine finish, and if you take care to do things correctly you will get a 'Salon' look, just don't expect it to last forever!

Point of Note

The brush is large, I think some people will probably hate that it's thick and wide, I found it good, I like to paint in 3 strokes and it worked well for me.  Beware however the consistency of the polish is quite thick and you will have a lot of product on the brush.  You can see the difference between OPI brush and Rimmel below.  I found the shape of the cap nice to hold also.

 Top Tips

• Give the bottle a good shake before applying
• Wear a base coat, some of the shade are staining to the nail and surrounding skin (damn you britpop!)
• Wipe excess of the sides of the brush, or you'll end up globbing and blobbing :P
• Wear a good top coat, despite the 'lycra' and 10 days claim, they are not chip proof!
